Extending the Life of Your Long Island Central Air Conditioning Unit

Extending the Life of Your Long Island Central Air Conditioning Unit

Each year, the team of AC specialists here at Dole services central air systems across Long Island. One of the most common questions that our customers ask us is how they can make their central air systems last longer. Here are some of the care tips we have shared over the years:

Top Tips for Caring for Central Air Systems

When it comes to central air systems, it is important to keep in mind that these appliances are used heavily. During the summer months we rely on them to keep our homes cooled consistently. Most of us run our central air systems steadily from the middle of May until the beginning of September. These units are extremely durable and their lifespan should range from 15 to 20 years. It goes without saying that the better you care for your unit, the longer it will last. Keep the following tips in mind:

Have your central air system serviced twice a year. Every spring and fall, schedule a maintenance visit from an AC professional who specializes in your type of central air system. Ask for a full cleaning and tune-up. Your AC specialist will also top off any fluids that need replenishing and make any necessary repairs.

Make sure to include duct cleaning and repair in the maintenance visit. If your ducts aren’t clean and in good condition, your central air system will consume more energy and the air quality will drop. Taking good care of your ducts is just as important as the AC maintenance!

Clean or replace the filter as recommended by the manufacturer. Most systems include filters that need to be either cleaned or replaced every couple of months. Do this on time in order to keep the energy consumption down and the air quality high.

Don’t let little things go unaddressed. One of the main causes of central air systems breakdowns are when people let little issues go for too long before calling their AC professionals. So remember: if you hear a strange noise coming from the system; if you notice a strange smell; or if it doesn’t seem to be heating or cooling enough, get it looked at right away.

To make sure you get top-rated care for your central air system, call the team of AC professionals here at Dole. We are dedicated to providing fast, efficient, and cost-effective service for all of our customers.
